Know how to secure your and your family’s rights post-Brexit

EEA Nationals and their Family Members should register under the EU Settlement Scheme before the 30 June 2021 to secure their right to reside in the UK.

Further to Brexit on 31 January 2020, EEA Nationals and their Family Members must apply under the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living and working in the United Kingdom. The deadline for applying is 30 June 2021.

The EU Settlement Scheme allows EEA Nationals and their Family Members either to obtain a “pre-settled” status, or a “settled status“. The status you get will depend on how long you have been living in the UK when you apply.

You can find below the summary of the steps to underdake for an application under the EU Settlement Scheme:

1. First of all, download the EU Exit: ID Document check app on your phone or tablet, where you will need to scan the biometric details of your passport and take a photo of yourself.

If you cannot use the app, you can make an appointment (this can be chargeable) to scan your ID document. You can access the list of locations offering ID document scanning via this link:  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/eu-settlement-scheme-id-document-scanner-locations/locations-offering-chip-checker-services.

2. Once the above is done, the Home Office will send you a link via email or text asking you to complete the EU Settlement online application form.

3. Finally, you will need to provide the relevant documents to support your application.

Kindly note that it is free of charge to apply under the EU Settlement Scheme.
