EEA residence card

Since the UK left the EU on 31 January 2020, it has entered into the transition period that will last until 31 December 2020.

As stated on the government’s website, your EEA residence card, even if it has an expiry date after 31 December 2020, will not be valid after that date.

This means that you will have to apply under the EU Settlement Scheme should you wish to travel out of and back to the UK after 31 December 2020, if you are eligible to do so. Once you have been granted status under the EU Settlement Scheme, you should apply for a replacement biometric residence card to reflect your status to allow yourself to travel out of and back to the UK after 31 December 2020.

Kindly note that there is no deadline as such to apply for a biometric residence card once you have been granted status under the EU Settlement Scheme.

However, note that the deadline for you to apply under the EU Settlement Scheme for the first time is 30 June 2021. If you have already been granted a pre-settled status under the scheme, you will be eligible to apply for settled status once you qualify on the condition that you meet the absence requirement, even after 30 June 2021.
