Sole Representative Visa
If you were not aware the Sole Representative Visa has been discontinued by the Home Office. Henceforth, UK Immigration will only accept applications to extend existing Sole Representative Visas or applications to move from it to settlement in the UK.
The UK government has not issued a formal statement explaining why they discontinued the Sole Representative Visa route. Some speculate their intention is to funnel more applicants toward the new Innovator Founder Visa or the UK Expansion Worker Visa.
Since the Sole Representative Visa route no longer exists there is no point in reiterating the requirements to obtain one. Also, since we cover the Innovator Founder Visa at length on other pages we will confine ourselves here to taking a quick look at the Expansion Worker Visa.
About the UK Expansion Worker Visa
Some who intended to apply for a Sole Representative Visa might want to consider applying instead for the UK Expansion Worker Visa. Like the Senior or Specialist Worker Visa the Expansion Worker Visa is intended for senior managers and specialist employees looking to be assigned to a temporary position in the UK.
The difference between the 2 is that the Senior or Specialist Worker Visa is for workers transferring from overseas to a UK office owned or controlled by the same business to fill an empty position. While the Expansion Worker Visa is for those coming to the UK to facilitate the expansion of the company’s operations in the UK.
Requirements for the UK Expansion Worker Visa
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You are currently employed by a business with a direct link to your UK sponsor business.
- You have worked for the foreign business for at least 12 months (cumulative).*
- You possess a valid Certificate of Sponsorship from the UK branch of the business.
- The job you will be undertaking requires at least RQF Level 6.
- Your salary will be no less than £45,800 per year (maybe more depending on the UK “going rate” for the position).
- You can prove adequate financial resources to support yourself.
*Some are exempt from the 12 months of work requirement. They are:
High earners whose UK salary will be £73,900 per year or more.
Japanese Nationals seeking to establish a UK branch or subsidiary, under the terms of the UK-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
Nationals or permanent residents of Australia seeking to establish a UK branch or subsidiary under the terms of the Free Trade Agreement between the UK and Australia.
