When people consider divorce or separation, they do not consider what the repercussions are because they are full of emotions and feel hurt.
Divorce comes in two parts, personal and financial. In general, people think that when the decree absolute is granted, then it is over. However, it is not over until the financial matter and a court order has been granted. This is only the point when one can say that the divorce is truly over.
When people come to discuss divorce, they want to be comfortable with the person that they are talking to because they are sharing very personal matters and are investing a lot of time energy, emotion, and money with that person.

Divorce is personal, and at present the process is fault based and there are a number of grounds to get divorced, which are:
- Unreasonable Behaviour
- Lived apart from more and two and both parties’ consent, preceding the filing of the petition at court
- The party has deserted the other party
- The parties have lived apart for a continuous period of more than 5 years before the petition is filed at court
Divorce is also financial, and this is where a lot of money is spent deciding who should have what and why. Until you have the Court Order, you are still financially married to the other person.
It does not matter if you are the petitioner or the respondent, this is the start of the unknown, for example where do I live and or where will the children live or how will I survive.
